21st Century Pharma: Where Machine Learning Meets LSD

Abstract:
MindMed's mission is to revolutionize mental healthcare by developing science-driven psychedelic medicine based on LSD molecules, aimed at addressing conditions such as anxiety and depression. Adam and Miguel will share the vision of the MindMed digital platform, which plays a pivotal role in collecting patient biomarker data during clinical trials and aims to enhance the safety and effectiveness of therapies involving newly developed drugs. This unique fusion of digital products with pharmaceuticals presents a wide array of fundamental ML research challenges. Using the case study of modeling LSD trips, Adam and Miguel will showcase the development of such datasets and how they apply a bottom-up approach to building and analyzing ML models, drawing inspiration from advancements in various domains of machine learning.

About speakers:

Miguel: Miguel Pinheiro is an ML engineer at MindMed. His previous experience revolves around data science in multiple startups in the financial and health fields. He has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the Czech Technical University, where he worked in large medical image registration.

Adam: Adam is a machine learning researcher with over a decade of experience in data science. He brings knowledge from fundamental research in AGI as well as a corporate background, where he led a research team at Seznam, focusing on improving full-text and image search. In recent years, he has dedicated his efforts to catalyzing innovation in early-stage startups, leveraging the power of machine learning to disrupt industries such as real estate with automated price estimation and healthcare with precise measurement approaches. Beyond his professional roles, Adam is an educator, offering courses and mentoring companies. He is also a proud member of the core team that introduced Machine Learning Meetup to Brno.
